Column two: Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Gives a quality rating of 5s=star (top), 5, 4, 3a, 3b, 2 or 1 (bottom). Column three: also RAE. Each letter denotes the proportion of staff included in the assessment, from A (almost everyone) to F (hardly anyone). Column four: shows the A level score from the average of new students.
